An award-winning producer, writer, director and development/marketing strategist, Denene is committed to creating and promoting media of intellectual and cultural merit. She is equally dedicated to connecting the power of film, television, multi-platform media and events with commercial, charitable and community interests to enrich lives, culture and our global environment.
As Executive Producer at Cinergy Group, Denene develops and manages projects to bring more life-enriching movies and thought-provoking documentaries to mainstream and family audiences on all media platforms. For each project, Denene selects and supervises the best team of professionals to create the highest quality production or promotional campaign in the most cost-effective manner. Denene is passionate about telling stories that not only entertain, but engage, educate and empower. She is particularly interested in promoting health and wellness.
Denene is often contracted for her expertise in business development, project management, writing, producing, directing, script consulting, strategic partnership development, sponsorship development, event production, promotion, marketing, advertising, media buying, publicity, catering and event management.
As a former Project Development Executive at WETA Public Television (PBS) in Arlington, Virginia, Denene managed packaging and delivery of thirty episodes of the Globe Trekker series on American Public Television. She worked directly with WETA's Executive Vice President, Executive Producer, and Chief Programming Officer to develop projects and strategic partnership/sponsorship marketing plans for In Performance at the White House and The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize. She also assisted the National Programming team on Martha Stewart's Cooking School TV series, MAKERS: Women Who Make America web series narrated by Meryl Streep, and The Central Park Five documentary film by Ken Burns.
Denene turned her career focus toward the media and entertainment industry in 1992 when she transitioned from her San Diego-based media/event production, marketing and public relations business to become a development and marketing consultant for actor Keith Carradine, founder of the Sheridan Arts Foundation in Telluride, Colorado. There she co-produced and promoted fundraisers with Carradine's Will Rogers Follies Broadway cast, Al Stewart, Gary Busey, Mel Gibson and Sissy Spacek to provide national arts education programs, host Hollywood film premieres, and acquire the Sheridan Opera House, home of the Telluride Film Festival. Denene worked with the Carradines and the New Learning Project on development of Will Rogers America, a PBS special and interactive media project. She also organized and promoted SAF's first Arts Education Conference sponsored by Scholastic Publishing to support arts education in our nation's schools.
Upon completion of the SAF contract, she moved to Los Angeles where she worked seven years, starting as an assistant to senior executives in feature film advertising and publicity at Warner Bros., then in business and legal affairs at Vin Di Bona Productions (America's Funniest Videos, Drew Carey's Who's Line Is It Anyway?, I Survived a Disaster series on ABC). Subsequently, she independently secured rights to two life stories and books for a TV Movie pitched to Lifetime. At KCBS Marketing/CBS Promotions, Denene developed brand advertising, event sponsorship and integrated marketing campaigns utilizing CBS-owned television, radio, billboard and web properties.
From Los Angeles, she moved to Chicago to become Senior Producer responsible for national programming promotion at Total Living Network providing content to PAX-TV . She was instrumental in TLN's brand development and network launch; co-producing and co-editing news, faith-based, family and children's programming including movies distributed to 106 U.S. affiliates and international markets. She also directed talent and shot footage for TLN's 9/11 Anniversary Special, commercials, and the Emmy Award-winning Aspiring Women TV series.
As a freelance producer and publicist, Denene produced segments that aired on ESPN's Ultimate Flights aviation series, NBC TODAY and ABC National News. For the American Film Institute/Discovery Channel Silverdocs Film Festival, she produced and directed 20 webisodes, interviewing 84 renowned international documentary filmmakers including Academy Award winners Oliver Stone, Davis Guggenheim, Louie Psihoyos, and Jon Blair.
For Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Andrew Goldberg of Two Cats Productions in New York, Denene was contracted as a Coordinating Producer for development of a two-hour PBS documentary on the history of Iran-U.S. relations. She wrote sections of their NEH grant proposals and secured a strategic partnership with American University for social media and educational outreach.
For Nikki Hevesy, Producer/Direcor at Through the Lens Productions based in Los Angeles, Denene was Line Producer of the Washington DC Shoot for a documentary short Harvey Fellows Profile that garnered a CINE GOLDEN EAGLE Award. Denene also directed some of the DC interviews.
An experienced feature film script supervisor, travel/production coordinator, location manager, camera assistant, and Key Craft Services/Catering Manager, Denene worked on TRI for DC31 LLC, Road to Redemption for Dean River Productions, Remember Holly Powers for NHK Broadcasting/USC School of Cinema Arts in Los Angeles and Nocturnal Agony for Nubia Filmworks in Washington DC.
Denene earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree from the University of Illinois with Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors. She holds a Professional Certificate in Film, Television and Video (concentration in Producing & Screenwriting) from UCLA with a Sundance Institute internship.
Second Time Around, a heartwarming family film about courtship which Denene wrote, produced, directed and self-funded, was selected by the Washington DC Chapter of Women in Film & Video as a member film for inclusion in its 2013 Women in Film & Television International (WIFTI) Shorts Screening.
